first year of the new playoff system by select committee and it is a clear failure... it is set up for easy failure since there are four spits in the playoffs and there are five power conferences so without a doubt one of the power conferences will be out of the playoffs... and this first year it is worse than that as the only conference without a conference championship has two viable teams deserving a shot and not having a conference championship means they can back their way in... tcu plays a 10 loss team in their final game and win big as expected, but their one loss comes to baylor who beats a 10 win team who is ranked ninth in the country... baylor beat tcu head to head... the conference rules state the winner of a head to head game represents the conference if two teams finish with the same record... yet the committee ignores the written rules and places tcu thirds... meanwhile, the current national champions are still undefeated, have a 20+ game winning streak, and they are ranked fourth... so an undefeated national champion is ranked 4th, a team who lost to #6 is ranked 3rd against the conference rules, and two one loss teams are ranked one and two... winning definitely isn't everything...
they need an eight team playoff... every conference needs a conference championship game... the conference champions get five of the eight spots... then the "special committee" can choose the three best teams from the rest... by the 8-9 spots the debated will not be nearly as harsh and the unfairness will not be nearly as clear...
Rankings as the "special committee" had it going into this week (and what each team did this week):
1. Alabama 12-1 beat #16 Missouri (10-3) 42-13 in SEC Championship game
2. Oregon 12-1 beat #7 Arizona (10-3) 51-13 in PAC 12 Championship game
3. TCU 11-1 beat unranked Iowa St (2-10 season record) 55-3 in last game
4. Florida St 13-0 Current National Champions, undefeated, beat #11 Georgia Tech 37-35 in ACC Championship game
5. Ohio State 12-1 beat #13 Wisconsin (10-3) 59-0 in Big 10 Championship game
6. Baylor 11-1 beat TCU during season, beat #9 Kansas St (10-3) 38-27 in last game
Rankings as I see it:
1. Florida St 13-0 respect the champions and the championship. Current National Champions, undefeated, beat #11 Georgia Tech (10-3) 37-35 in ACC Championship game
2. Oregon 12-1 beat #7 Arizona (10-3) 51-13 in PAC 12 Championship game
3. Alabama 12-1 beat #11 Missouri (10-3) 42-13 in SEC Championship game
4. Ohio State 12-1 beat #13 Wisconsin (10-3) 59-0 in Big 10 Championship game SOS 45
5. Baylor 11-1 beat TCU during season, beat #9 Kansas St (10-3) 38-27 in last game (tied TCUr for conference lead) SOS 54
6. TCU 11-1 beat unranked Iowa St (2-10 season record) in last game (tied Baylor for conference lead) SOS 59
deciding 4, 5, and 6 went like this... the SOS (strength of schedule) puts Ohio State ahead of Baylor and TCU even without the Championship week results... Baylor and TCU chose to play no challenging games in non-conference games... their conference chooses to avoid a championship game... for the record, the Big 12 conference rules state that when two teams finish with the same record, the conference representative as champion is the decided by a head to head game. live with that tcu fans, or change your conference rules...
best teams?... that is decided on the field, not in a conference room... in a conference room or any voting system, too much politics, favoritism, commercialism, money, and pressures unrelated to the game on the field influence decisions... unfortunately, one of the five big conferences must be left out of a four team playoff... it is a set up for failure... eight team playoff is the only option to decide who is best... otherwise, it's all too influenced by conference room opinion as it has been for many many years...
I say, short of an eight team playoff (my first preference) that would include all six and two others, Baylor should play TCU again to decide the conference championship, then with winner, Alabama, Oregon, and Ohio State play a four game playoff with the winner playing the current undefeated national chamionship... that way the national championship itself is respected and the best team is decided on the field...

stupid tv announcers
there are few things more annoying than a sportscaster on a nationally televised game on a major network showing an obvious bias for one of the teams using ridiculous superlatives like just perfect and can't do it any better when one team does well and then ignores when the other team does well... i give you a stupid tv announcer making a fool of himself fawning over alabama as they are basically given every chance to win by a fumbling mississippi state offense that forced it's defense to play an amazing game for three quarters that kept the game close enough to be anybody's game which left the defense gasping in the fourth quarter and they still only lost by 5 points proving the perfection of the other team was not real, but the delusion of a fan disguised as a sportscaster... it doesn't matter to me who wins, but what must be complained about is college football announcers who can be so ridiculously stupid they do not even see their own bias and how it makes listening to a game unappealing... sponsors beware, your products are tainted and avoided after such an experience... you can figure out who i am talking about if you like, it really doesn't matter because i've pretty much wasted my time writing this entry and you, well, you did see the name of this blog before you started reading, didn't you?...

HTC and Best Buy
the phone will no longer connect to the computer and i have not figured out why... other bugginess is happening too like time not synching and delays and poor connection for charging (i've had to replace charging cords way too often so it's also the cords that suck cuz a new cord works fine for a little while) and that might be why it is not connecting to the computer if the connection is flakey and that sucks as i have photos i want to save... hopefully they are on the hd card...
so i just spent an hour deleting text messages and trying to figure out what to do to get the phone to connect... and nothing is working... and that really sucks...
and i repeat the attempt again and just end with frustration... won't be getting an HTC again... so which to choose...
grump...
tic tic tic... updating a while later... it was the cable... the $30 charger i bought from best buy came with a charge-only cable... what a rip-off, best buy... i will complain if i go there again, as if they will care...
so the HTC was not at fault, but the phone is dying and locking up way too much...
whatever...

screw kaspersky again
i turned off kaspersky automatic scans, switched to manual scans, and still full scans run whenever the fuck they want to and if you notice by my language i am ready to cancel and move on to another virus protection... it is ridiculous that they do not build into their program a simple TURN IT THE FUCK OFF WHEN I AM WORKING feature... i refer to turning off scans, not the overall program... it is ridiculous that i must stop when i am doing because kaspersky stops the computer from working and i must deal with an excruciatingly slow computer as i wait for the kaspersky window to reopen and the kaspersky buttons to stop the scan that slows the computer to a crawl (or locks it), a scan i not only did not start, but i told kaspersky in their own settings not to start... serious flaws in the scheduling part of the kaspersky software are gradually overriding the protection that the software provides...
dammit kaspersky, get the message, your program undermines itself by acting like a virus that stops me from using my own computer and you will lose yet another customer if you don't have it fixed by the end of my subscription (or sooner as switching to manual seems to have the opposite effect as i've had to stop the crawl and turn off a full scan three times today since turning off automatic scans...
i shut down the computer and turn it back on and click on windows update because i have that set to manual too and kaspersky won't let windows update run because it starts a scan even though i set it to only scan manually... it's got to go...
get it together kaspersky - or you are gone...

goodbye mda
i grew up watching jerry lewis push himself hour after hour to beg in every way possible for a dollar or few for kids who had muscular dystrophy... it was often humiliating and exploitative and that grated on me a lot, but it got more money each year for a good cause and that was the way to do it back then when institutions were the norm for people different from the norm... he would work tirelessly for free not just for those 24 hours of live television, but for weeks before and after and all year round beating the drum for the people with muscular diseases... he made the muscular dystrophy association what it is, a multi-million dollar business supposedly dedicated to helping people... caring about people was what the mda was known for largely due to the blood, sweat, and tears given by jerry and all those who joined because of jerry...
i admit i drifted away from the show and i definitely saw the flaws in his antiquated narrow-minded perspectives, but that was what his generation taught their children and until the 1960's double standards and misguided prejudices were the norm (many still are)... oddly, many on the internet today belittle his opinions and talents, yet still spent their time posting comments about him... small minds condemning other smalls minds, the way of humanity... and a strange thing this internet world has brought, people who spend time telling other people to disregard someone else as a waste of time (wait, did i just define meaningless complaint?... shhhh, we can't be giving away the secrets and wisdoms and inside jokes, now, can we?... what?... lol lam)...
but back to jerry, or mr. lewis as those who didn't know him and thought him to be an elitist would call him, he gave until it hurt, that was without doubt true goodness and intent... this year i tuned in to see it was nothing like it was before... no telethon... a two hour concert with some disjointed messages in between... and no jerry lewis... i looked it up on the internet (where else, right?) and sadly, with shock and dismay about corporate america yet again, found out why...
the muscular dystrophy association died...
it was always on the backwards side, pandering for pity, exploiting the disabled for money to help them, but that was the method and mindset of the generations that spawned such charities... dignity and equality is only a very recent concept for those who have diseases or physical limitations, which is sad, but nonetheless true... people needed educating, yes, but without the pity approach, a lot less money would have been raised... still, in the ultimate act of self-destruction, it ripped it's own heart out of it's chest... greed and corruption?... just plain stupidity?... what else could explain the dismissal of a jerry lewis, the father, grandfather, and founder of the household name and vast money stream that made mda what is was... the guy who did it (mda president who earned more $400K off Jerry's kids the year he dumped Jerry... Jerry notably did not take money for his time but gave several million out of his pocket over the years) resigned the next year, which was likely no coincidence... and the organization itself is now failing... worst of all, as quoted in Time Magazine, mda officials continue to lie about Jerry Lewis in public statements and exploit him and others on their new show... he did not retire... he was shown the door, rudely, disrespectfully, shamfully... (shamefully too)... Time Magazine quoted the current interim mda president who said it loud and clear:
goodbye mda, there are plenty of other ethical and reputable organizations with a whole lot more integrity than yours... charity navigator gives mda one star (out of four) for it's financial health, failing... may you endure and shameful termination of business...

"a 21.5 hour show does not fit into a 140 character world."and Time concluded:
"neither, apparently, did Jerry Lewis"and i'll add neither, obviously, does ethics, loyalty, charity, or respect.
