perhaps we consider prisons

and what prisons mean in a society... and what putting people in prisons mean to a culture... i mean, what kind of people want to put a lot of people in prison (not to mention spending a fortune keeping people behind bars... surely not any people who believe in freedom, equality, justice, and giving all people the opportunity for success like the american dreams says, right?)... considering that a prison is the best place for a person to get an education in how to be a criminal, prisons are pretty much universities for advanced degrees in crime... so who wants a lot of people in prison?...

Iceland, Finland, and Pakistan (yes, Pakistan) all have 60 or less people in prisons per 100,000 people which are some of the lowest rates in the world... we can expect low prison rates from highly evolved, enlightened, peaceful cultures that focus on human rights and freedom and family and high ideals and creating a positive opportunity for all of it's citizens to choose healthy and productive and non-criminal activities, right?... Japan, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland each have less than 80 per 100,000 in prison... Germany, Netherlands, France, Belgium, South Korea, Ireland, have less than 100 per 100,000... Iraq has 101 per 100,000 people in prison... China has 120 per 100,000... Vietnam 122... wait a minute, highly evolved, enlightened, peaceful, free, human rights, family, high ideals, equal opportunities, what?... lots of other countries fall in on the list that are not mentioned here, but the point is taking a look at how the USA compares with the world in putting people in prison... Iran is at 222 per 100,000 people in prison... and don't the leaders of the USA tell us we need to teach Iraq and Iran (not to mention China and lots of others) about human rights and freedom and how to take care of their people properly?... how about the communist and former communist countries?...

Kazakhstan has 400 per 100,000 and Georgia has 531 per 100,00 while Cuba has 537 per 100,000 people in prison... now that's expected, surely, because communism is corrupt and oppresses people creating a criminal culture and little opportunity for the poor to find a healthy way out, naturally... the US Virgin Islands have 561 people in prison per 100,000 people (oh wait, they are not communist, are they?... was that sarcastic?)...

ok, seriously...

Russia has 582 people in prison for each 100,000 people, so that sure shows how little respect for human rights and how poorly Russia still takes care of their society to this day - focusing on spending a fortune keeping people in jails rather than education and rehab and providing alternatives to prison which essential is the best place to get a serious education in criminology from the criminal's perspective...

the USA has 743 people in prison per 100,000 people... nobody higher...

what?
