modern medicine

my biggest issue with trusting modern medicine is i've worked in health care since i was a teenager and it is not the caring compassionate life saving experience it should be... it is a business, quite cutthroat, and an industry... medical science is mostly about manufacturing and selling product from drugs to equipment to machines... that is not to say there is no value in the drugs or equipment or machines, but i know first hand, second hand, and in too many ways that the priority is the budget, like most aspects of our world from religion to breakfast cereal, it's all about the money... increasing revenue... it is done by minimizing insurance risks, reducing time spent with each patient, and selling product... we are heading for online computerize diagnoses and treatment, warehousing the old, and assembly line medicine... there is no profit in cures, the profit is in continued treatment which is why the system is design to treat symptoms and not cure diseases... take this pill you'll feel better and better yet, you'll be back again real soon cuz you're gonna need more of those pills... and more treatments... forever until you die... we'll charge you after that too... have i started ranting yet?... (see Dr. Robert Kehoe, General Motors, lead (the metal), and gasoline... and let's not even get started on cigarettes, alcohol, and you name it... trust industry?... not even close)...

waiting for brighthouse again

while i wait for a brighthouse internet technical support voice to come on the phone, i grumble here with you hoping the magical moments that would have been tonight are not stolen by my so called friends at brighthouse... to depend on the internet connection for sharing these words truly brings the reality of how powerless we are to actually communicate across cyberspace whenever and however we want to we truly are... beyond the power to sit across from each other and have a conversation, we are completely dependant on others, in this day and age mostly out of control corporations, to grant us the means to communicate any other way... the phone company, the cable company, the internet service providers... they have the power to, at the flick of a switch, send us back into the stone ages (or at least the 19th century) in terms of how we communicate with each other... pony express, anyone?...

it has been eight minutes and forty two seconds, approximately, and there has been no sound from the phone since the voice said it was connecting me to an internet support technician and the phone says the call is still connected...

so i ate a peach yogurt that i would not have eaten and finally a tech support person comes on and asks for the same information that the recorded voice already had (are automated recorded voices really more intelligent than humans?) and after sending a series of signals the allegedly human voice claimed to have found a note about some maintenance work being done on the internet in my area and that is likely causing my outage and the note the human voice found said it is anticipated the work will continue until 6am, or at least five hours, and the voice apologized for the inconvenience and asked if there was anything else my friends at brighthouse could do and i asked for a credit for my inconvenience and whil waiting for the credit to process i suggested that brighthouse offer an option that other companies (like banks) do that send an automated text to a customer cell phone when service interruptions occur, especially when they are scheduled maintenance... the human voice said she put that in a suggestions box with a bit of a chuckle which suggested the whole finding of the note about maintenance might have been a lie just to say the internet will be back up and running any time now, or at least by morning, so stop trying to use it and leave us alone, friend...

i get a tech message from my bank every time i use my credit card as any random gas pump (among other reasons), so cn it be so challenging to write a program that sends a text message to selected telephone numbers (customer's wh've requested such notifications) whenever internet service is interrupted in an area?... apparently it's beyond the technical savvy (or customer service) of brighthouse... they may be not so bright, alas...

so anyway, the human voice reads me the suggestion she allegedly put into some sort of customer suggestion box (i picture a waste paper basket or toilet icon on their screen, if it exists) and then asks if there is anything else she can help me with tonight... i reminded her about the credit for my inconvenience and she tells me they upgraded all the cable in the area to fiber optics which will increase my internet speed at no charge, rambles on a bit more, apologizes for my inconvenience once again, and then asks me again if there is anything else she can do for me tonight... i resisted the opening and asked once again about the credit and she said she gave me two days credit... she's lucky i was in a good mood...

alternatives welcome...

ncaa follies

first year of the new playoff system by select committee and it is a clear failure... it is set up for easy failure since there are four spits in the playoffs and there are five power conferences so without a doubt one of the power conferences will be out of the playoffs... and this first year it is worse than that as the only conference without a conference championship has two viable teams deserving a shot and not having a conference championship means they can back their way in... tcu plays a 10 loss team in their final game and win big as expected, but their one loss comes to baylor who beats a 10 win team who is ranked ninth in the country... baylor beat tcu head to head... the conference rules state the winner of a head to head game represents the conference if two teams finish with the same record... yet the committee ignores the written rules and places tcu thirds... meanwhile, the current national champions are still undefeated, have a 20+ game winning streak, and they are ranked fourth... so an undefeated national champion is ranked 4th, a team who lost to #6 is ranked 3rd against the conference rules, and two one loss teams are ranked one and two... winning definitely isn't everything...

they need an eight team playoff... every conference needs a conference championship game... the conference champions get five of the eight spots... then the "special committee" can choose the three best teams from the rest... by the 8-9 spots the debated will not be nearly as harsh and the unfairness will not be nearly as clear...

Rankings as the "special committee" had it going into this week (and what each team did this week):

1. Alabama 12-1 beat #16 Missouri (10-3) 42-13 in SEC Championship game
2. Oregon 12-1 beat #7 Arizona (10-3) 51-13 in PAC 12 Championship game
3. TCU 11-1 beat unranked Iowa St (2-10 season record) 55-3 in last game
4. Florida St 13-0 Current National Champions, undefeated, beat #11 Georgia Tech 37-35 in ACC Championship game
5. Ohio State 12-1 beat #13 Wisconsin (10-3) 59-0 in Big 10 Championship game
6. Baylor 11-1 beat TCU during season, beat #9 Kansas St (10-3) 38-27 in last game

Rankings as I see it:

1. Florida St 13-0 respect the champions and the championship. Current National Champions, undefeated, beat #11 Georgia Tech (10-3) 37-35 in ACC Championship game
2. Oregon 12-1 beat #7 Arizona (10-3) 51-13 in PAC 12 Championship game
3. Alabama 12-1 beat #11 Missouri (10-3) 42-13 in SEC Championship game
4. Ohio State 12-1 beat #13 Wisconsin (10-3) 59-0 in Big 10 Championship game SOS 45
5. Baylor 11-1 beat TCU during season, beat #9 Kansas St (10-3) 38-27 in last game (tied TCUr for conference lead) SOS 54
6. TCU 11-1 beat unranked Iowa St (2-10 season record) in last game (tied Baylor for conference lead) SOS 59

deciding 4, 5, and 6 went like this... the SOS (strength of schedule) puts Ohio State ahead of Baylor and TCU even without the Championship week results... Baylor and TCU chose to play no challenging games in non-conference games... their conference chooses to avoid a championship game... for the record, the Big 12 conference rules state that when two teams finish with the same record, the conference representative as champion is the decided by a head to head game. live with that tcu fans, or change your conference rules...

best teams?... that is decided on the field, not in a conference room... in a conference room or any voting system, too much politics, favoritism, commercialism, money, and pressures unrelated to the game on the field influence decisions... unfortunately, one of the five big conferences must be left out of a four team playoff... it is a set up for failure... eight team playoff is the only option to decide who is best... otherwise, it's all too influenced by conference room opinion as it has been for many many years...

I say, short of an eight team playoff (my first preference) that would include all six and two others, Baylor should play TCU again to decide the conference championship, then with winner, Alabama, Oregon, and Ohio State play a four game playoff with the winner playing the current undefeated national chamionship... that way the national championship itself is respected and the best team is decided on the field...

stupid tv announcers

there are few things more annoying than a sportscaster on a nationally televised game on a major network showing an obvious bias for one of the teams using ridiculous superlatives like just perfect and can't do it any better when one team does well and then ignores when the other team does well... i give you a stupid tv announcer making a fool of himself fawning over alabama as they are basically given every chance to win by a fumbling mississippi state offense that forced it's defense to play an amazing game for three quarters that kept the game close enough to be anybody's game which left the defense gasping in the fourth quarter and they still only lost by 5 points proving the perfection of the other team was not real, but the delusion of a fan disguised as a sportscaster... it doesn't matter to me who wins, but what must be complained about is college football announcers who can be so ridiculously stupid they do not even see their own bias and how it makes listening to a game unappealing... sponsors beware, your products are tainted and avoided after such an experience... you can figure out who i am talking about if you like, it really doesn't matter because i've pretty much wasted my time writing this entry and you, well, you did see the name of this blog before you started reading, didn't you?...

HTC and Best Buy

the phone will no longer connect to the computer and i have not figured out why... other bugginess is happening too like time not synching and delays and poor connection for charging (i've had to replace charging cords way too often so it's also the cords that suck cuz a new cord works fine for a little while) and that might be why it is not connecting to the computer if the connection is flakey and that sucks as i have photos i want to save... hopefully they are on the hd card...

so i just spent an hour deleting text messages and trying to figure out what to do to get the phone to connect... and nothing is working... and that really sucks...

and i repeat the attempt again and just end with frustration... won't be getting an HTC again... so which to choose...

grump...

tic tic tic... updating a while later... it was the cable... the $30 charger i bought from best buy came with a charge-only cable... what a rip-off, best buy... i will complain if i go there again, as if they will care...

so the HTC was not at fault, but the phone is dying and locking up way too much...

whatever...

screw kaspersky again

i turned off kaspersky automatic scans, switched to manual scans, and still full scans run whenever the fuck they want to and if you notice by my language i am ready to cancel and move on to another virus protection... it is ridiculous that they do not build into their program a simple TURN IT THE FUCK OFF WHEN I AM WORKING feature... i refer to turning off scans, not the overall program... it is ridiculous that i must stop when i am doing because kaspersky stops the computer from working and i must deal with an excruciatingly slow computer as i wait for the kaspersky window to reopen and the kaspersky buttons to stop the scan that slows the computer to a crawl (or locks it), a scan i not only did not start, but i told kaspersky in their own settings not to start... serious flaws in the scheduling part of the kaspersky software are gradually overriding the protection that the software provides...

dammit kaspersky, get the message, your program undermines itself by acting like a virus that stops me from using my own computer and you will lose yet another customer if you don't have it fixed by the end of my subscription (or sooner as switching to manual seems to have the opposite effect as i've had to stop the crawl and turn off a full scan three times today since turning off automatic scans...

i shut down the computer and turn it back on and click on windows update because i have that set to manual too and kaspersky won't let windows update run because it starts a scan even though i set it to only scan manually... it's got to go...

get it together kaspersky - or you are gone...

goodbye mda

i grew up watching jerry lewis push himself hour after hour to beg in every way possible for a dollar or few for kids who had muscular dystrophy... it was often humiliating and exploitative and that grated on me a lot, but it got more money each year for a good cause and that was the way to do it back then when institutions were the norm for people different from the norm... he would work tirelessly for free not just for those 24 hours of live television, but for weeks before and after and all year round beating the drum for the people with muscular diseases... he made the muscular dystrophy association what it is, a multi-million dollar business supposedly dedicated to helping people... caring about people was what the mda was known for largely due to the blood, sweat, and tears given by jerry and all those who joined because of jerry...

i admit i drifted away from the show and i definitely saw the flaws in his antiquated narrow-minded perspectives, but that was what his generation taught their children and until the 1960's double standards and misguided prejudices were the norm (many still are)... oddly, many on the internet today belittle his opinions and talents, yet still spent their time posting comments about him... small minds condemning other smalls minds, the way of humanity... and a strange thing this internet world has brought, people who spend time telling other people to disregard someone else as a waste of time (wait, did i just define meaningless complaint?... shhhh, we can't be giving away the secrets and wisdoms and inside jokes, now, can we?... what?... lol lam)...

but back to jerry, or mr. lewis as those who didn't know him and thought him to be an elitist would call him, he gave until it hurt, that was without doubt true goodness and intent... this year i tuned in to see it was nothing like it was before... no telethon... a two hour concert with some disjointed messages in between... and no jerry lewis... i looked it up on the internet (where else, right?) and sadly, with shock and dismay about corporate america yet again, found out why...

the muscular dystrophy association died...

it was always on the backwards side, pandering for pity, exploiting the disabled for money to help them, but that was the method and mindset of the generations that spawned such charities... dignity and equality is only a very recent concept for those who have diseases or physical limitations, which is sad, but nonetheless true... people needed educating, yes, but without the pity approach, a lot less money would have been raised... still, in the ultimate act of self-destruction, it ripped it's own heart out of it's chest... greed and corruption?... just plain stupidity?... what else could explain the dismissal of a jerry lewis, the father, grandfather, and founder of the household name and vast money stream that made mda what is was... the guy who did it (mda president who earned more $400K off Jerry's kids the year he dumped Jerry... Jerry notably did not take money for his time but gave several million out of his pocket over the years) resigned the next year, which was likely no coincidence... and the organization itself is now failing... worst of all, as quoted in Time Magazine, mda officials continue to lie about Jerry Lewis in public statements and exploit him and others on their new show... he did not retire... he was shown the door, rudely, disrespectfully, shamfully... (shamefully too)... Time Magazine quoted the current interim mda president who said it loud and clear:

"a 21.5 hour show does not fit into a 140 character world."
and Time concluded:
"neither, apparently, did Jerry Lewis"
and i'll add neither, obviously, does ethics, loyalty, charity, or respect.

goodbye mda, there are plenty of other ethical and reputable organizations with a whole lot more integrity than yours... charity navigator gives mda one star (out of four) for it's financial health, failing... may you endure and shameful termination of business...

the extreme annoyingness of kasperslky

the extreme annoyingness of kaspersky returns once again as for whatever reason it happens, the critical scan is taking forever to complete and it is shutting down the cpu speed to the point where i shut everything down and it is still taking forever to get from 98% to 99% and then, even longer to get to 100%... i try to ignore it, but then, i did want to use my computer tonight... as the third three year subscription moves along, more and more i am searching for a better security anti-virus software... i heard from kaspersky support that they do not have a feature that will not allow these intrusive scans to start while the computer is in use and it does not run in idle or sleep, so it drives me crazy by waiting until i want to use the computer and then starting all it's scans and updates at once so i can't use the computer and it can freeze so hard that it takes ten minutes to get the module open to stop the damn scans... definitely less a kaspersky fan with each passing year...

a whole country cries

perhaps nothing demonstrates the fact that human beings are children more broadly than the story of a whole country crying over the loss of a game... and lebron thinks he is king and the greatest... while the espn blathers on about the importance of lebron in this egocentric country, the fact that interviews with people on the street in brazil collectively state the whole country gets depressed and people there do not let go of a loss in the world cup is a sad statement of how superficial human priorities are... while sport stars are paid upwards of twenty or more million dollars a year to play a game and hundreds of millions of dollars a year to sell us products we really do not need, many thousands of children die of starvation every day... can you really feel this?... do you remember how you felt on September 11, 2001... 9/11... well, yes, it was tragic, but what do you think of the fact that more people died of starvation that day than died in the towers?... in fact, can you grasp the truth that every single day, five times that number die of starvation... every single day - five times... estimates range from ten to thirty thousand die of starvation every day, and some say even thirty thousand is a conservative estimate... one out of eight people suffer from malnutrition in this supposedly civilized modern world...

so a whole country cries when a game is lost... and espn can't stop talking about lebron... and most people ignore when tens of thousand people starve to death every day...

broken bell

the taco bell taste is uniquely addictive (they probably add sugar to their meat or sauce or cheese or something), but the distribution of food is consistently disappointing as the consistency of product is phenomenally abysmal most likely because they employ teenagers at minimum wage to put together their products... so they tempt the taste buds with inconsistent reinforcement a few times with a loaded product and then skimp drastically on the same product so the flavor sucks and the product is often so disappointing it is discarded or left for others to consume... the only sure consistency at taco bell is that a new product will quickly go from loaded with ingredients to a hollow tortilla shell in a matter of weeks, days even... i wonder if that is their marketing strategy... suck people in and keep them hoping for a good product...

this is why i find myself going without taco bell (or any fast food) for months and even years at a time... it is yet one more sad reflection of american industry more interested in the profit than the product... greed over pride...

blah...

stupid moms

so there are apparently a lot of stupid moms in the world as a sportcenter anchor just mentioned that his mom threw out all of his baseball cards when he went away to college... he could have retired on them, he said... i know that feeling... rookie cards for mickey mantle, willie mays, carl yazstremski, willie stargell, roberto clemente, tom seaver, juan marichal, bob gibson, roger maris, reggie jackson, steve carlton, lou brock, rickey henderson, hank aaron, jim palmer, sandy koufax... this list could go on for a while... for most of those guys and a lot of others i had every card from every year they played, many in duplicate and triplicate... and then there were a few even more valuable cards, like babe ruth, lou gehrig, joe dimaggio, stan musial, jackie robinson, and dozens of others... i had many hundreds of thousand baseball cards... they were $10 for a box of 1000 retail and i would buy at least that much weekly, often wholesale so i'd get even more, for years... yeah, millions of dollars today, at least...

and then there were the comic books... i could have opened my own store as they were under 12 cents and i'd but a hundred a week for years... so many other collectables as well as i was making more than $30 a week as a paperboy from the time i was 11 years old and i was kind spoiled with cash gifts from grandma for years before that...

and there was more, but i spent a lot of years trying to forget the value, in dollars and in emotions, of what was thrown out when i left home to join the army... everything was neatly (hermetically sealed) boxed in the corner of the basement... everything was gone when i got home...

stupid... just stupid...

hugs for the wiser stronger mexicans

the narrowness of mexican minds is showing itself at the FIFA World Cup which has to be embarrasing to any intelligent mexicans (it is to my mexican friends as the world asks are there any intelligent mexicans? after the mexican coach defends the shameful anti-gay slur mexican fans shout, as if they don't mean it in a demeaning way when they do it, at times, specifically to try to distract the goalie or penalty kicker... the saddest thing is the FIFA decided to do nothing, so now ESPN must decide if they are doing to broadcast ten thousand fans screaming faggot in spanish... i wonder what ESPN would do if they were yelling something else about blacks or jews or another group of people... then again, based on slavery, concentration camps, and the many racial and religious wars continuing to this day, people love to hate and ridicule each other too much to care about it much... that ESPN would choose to broadcast it and blame it on FIFA though, that is surprising... and we pretend to be so outraged when children are exposed to sex or violence, but hate, people teach children hate and ridicule regularly on broad scales... teach your children well... m'ok?...

the silliest thing about homophobia is that is shows the weakness and fear and doubt so many people have about who they are, as if a gay person is some sort of threat to them... big tough guys who are reduced to pathetically defensive bully behavior because they are insecure about their own masculinity really need to get a clue about themselves and the weakness they show anyone watching them as they push and project their fears on others...

and for my mexican friends (en espagnol) who respect truth and equality and enlightened thinking (as well as the mexican government, who opposed the fans actions, these words are hugs as i call out the few who give them a public black eye... saddest of all is not that the mexicans gave away the game in the last ten minutes to a team they outplayed all day, sadder than the loss is the way the coach and the mexican color commentator represented mexicans as sore losers and whining victims by clearly saying the whole world was against mexico all along... paranoid much?... i want to give my mexican friends a hug for the ignorant, insensitive, small minded way some fans act and the way mexicans are represented by their leaders in world soccer... so that's what we bring away from the 2014 world cup for mexico, sore losers and paranoid homophobic cry babies... and i thought the nba clippers owner and lebron were bad (hey, the usa has just as many ignorant immature representatives out there, after all)...

who am i to judge, anyway... you can judge for yourself based on whether you choose to be offended by truth or insults, aye?...

brazil 2016?

not for me... not for the 2016 olympics or any other time as i can sit on a beach or in a hotel anywhere and it is not safe to explore much beyond the confines of a rental car... especially not if i was a woman... the out of control machismo that comes from the patriarchal culture that brings us priests sexually abusing children and human trafficking all over the world brings us public gang rapes on public transportation in brazil, india, and likely many other places in this world where women are too oppressed to even report it because they know, like in the recent gang rape in brazil, the male-dominated police will not take it seriously or investigate thoroughly... who knows how many crimes happen in the hotels or on the beaches, for that matter... it is not a safe place for a couple as boyfriends or husbands are just beaten out of the way as the penises make their way to vaginas without any intelligent or compassionate thought in the brains of the men... and it's especially unsafe for a woman alone... no, brazil is the third world by social cultural standards, but then, sadly, the first world is not much safer for women either...

and while we're on this particular complaint, the punishments never fit the crime even when police do their jobs... rape is a life changing act that never completely goes away... so is complete castration, which will insure it never happens again from that penis... does a person who murdered someone with a gun get to get a new gun permit after prison?... if a man knew he might become a woman, or at least lose his penis if he raped someone, he might think twice about going through with it... unless, of course, he was drunk... being drunk is always a great excuse... but how about if someone commits a violent crime when drunk, they are no longer permitted to get drunk?... simply, they go to jail if they are found drinking again since they have proven they are dangerous when drinking... punishments that truly deter crimes are not popular in our culture which is why there is so much crime... many rapists just blame women the whole time they are in prison and can't wait until they get out so they can do it again... why give them the chance... too harsh?... i don't think anyone who has not been raped has the right to judge...

a culture learns right from wrong best when punishments fit a crime... the human species is so frighteningly immature and deliberately stupid, it is likely we will destroy ourselves as so many species have in the history of this planet...

sometimes others complain better

SO TELL THE GOVERNMENT WHAT YOU THINK

in other words, care, show you care, stand up for your rights, speak out against greed and corporate injustice, keep your internet from being swallowed up by the worst of the corporate pirates... the internet is still the one place where the dream lives, where anyone can start a website and become a multi-billionaire if they just have the right idea and it goes viral... the greedy ones want to stop that, they want to make it challenging to compete, they want to turn the internet into real life where there are glass ceilings and caste systems and the 1% obscenely hold 90% of the power and money and the rest of us just suck it up and accept the unfairness of our socio-eceonomic slavery...

don't let them kill the freedom and equality of the internet, it's the only place where freedom and equality still truly exist... the video above has almost 4 million hits, 4 million views, 4 million visits... if the greedy ones get their way, videos like this will be restricted unless they pay the greedy ones for the right to the bigger audience... that is not right... the internet, we the people should have the right to decide who deserves our attention, not some corporate billionaire... so give THEM a few million hits... tell them what you think about their idea to end net neutrality, to not only legalize the internet providers monopoly, but to give the internet providers the right to decide who wins and who loses your attention based on how much they are paid...

corruption will follow us to our graves if we let this happen...

taco bull

also known as fast food, where there is no accountability or quality control because the corporations that own fast food pay off the inspectors to look the other way because that is a whole lot cheaper than paying a decent wage that would attract responsible workers and that is why the hands that make fast food are still wiping snot from their nose as they leave the bathroom without washing their hands because, after all, that is what teenagers do... the exceptions would not work fast food, after all... and yes, of course this is a broad generalization, but if you've ever watched the workers in a fast food store (or ever worked in one), then you know that there is so much truth in it, i'll let it stand...

so no wonder i stop at a taco bell to try their newest product and find it is not prepared as it is advertised... they probably didn't train the kid or insure he or she knew how to make the product they are spending millions to advertise... that would be quality control, after all... and once again i can drive by taco bell without craving any of their junk... every fear months or year or so i seem to need to remind myself that the food corporations do not care and more than any other corporation so it is foolish to expect them to feed me right...

another meaningless complaint registered with corporate america... in this case, corporate slop... and what did you have for dinner tonight?...

kaspersky sucks yet again

this is getting to the point where, in spite of my comfort level with the status quo and my desire not to change too much deep root stuff on a computer (like an anti-virus software or security suite), a change in software is a very real possibility as once again, kaspersky pure 3.0 almost shut down my computer and required me to stop what i was doing to turn off the automatic scan that will not run in the background without disconnecting my internet connection, slowing the computer to a crawl (or stop), and sometimes just locking the computer up completely... i've had kaspersky for years, i believe i am in my third 3 year subscription for multple computers, but it is getting worse again... if anyone can tell me how to set this annoying kaspersky pure 3.0 to not start an automatic scan when i am using the computer, like the computer must be idle for at least 30 minutes before it starts, i'd appreciate it... so i sent them this:

I have searched the knowledge base repeatedly for this "scheduled scan" "how do I stop a scheduled scan from running when I am using the computer?" That is what I want to know. I have idle scan on. The scans (full, critical, vulnerability) are set to run in the middle of the night. They often automatically turn on as I am using the computer and either disconnect my internet connection, slow the computer to a crawl, stop the computer completely, It is very annoying, delays work, and I sometimes lose work which is unacceptable and has be exploring alternatives when my 3 year license expires (this is my second or third 3 year license so I want to stay with Kaspersky, but the interruption of work must stop).

I just want to know how to stop the scheduled scan from starting when I am using the computer. I have not found a feature that sets the scheduled fan to wait until the computer has been idle for a specified period of time. That would be what I need.

Thanks,

and hopefully they will not tell me there is no such feature to configure Pure 3.0 to not interrupt an active CPU process and I must remember (cuz the biggest problem is i forget kaspersky does this and then have something lock up and must either reboot or wait for the unlocking to happen and hope it does cuz sometimes it doesn't) to manually open the console before i do anything else every time I wake the computer and wait for the scan to automatically start so i can press the stop or pause button which is just another way Kaspersky forces me to interrupt my work...

it's the before i do anything else that destroys any momentary inspiration for writing or immediate work that needs to be done or quick search for something, the three biggest reasons i have a computer in the first place so once again, if that is the only solution, kaspersky may just have to go...

he said just sayin'

maybe they heard the fans of professional basketball teams and stopped pandering to the street ballers for one season... too late for many who are not into the brute force fighting sports... but maybe the refs will stop putting restrictions on finesse and true talent and stop rewarding bullying for a while...

Sunday, June 8, 2014

the nba script remains the same

lebron can do no wrong, miami must win... lebron can bully physically and verbally, no problem... just ignore the blatant violation of rules because lebron brings the money in... miami cheats... miami bullies... tony parker was taken out of the game by a deliberate elbow to the gut, the wind up and blow was clear on replay... sacrifice a player and a flagrant foul to take out the other teams better player... hockey sucks because of that... basketball sucks because of that... sad the usa culture has come to that... lebron hits tony parker in the face then hits his hand, but because he screams at the refs there is no foul called and they give them a free time out to review the play... obvious foul, no call... just before that parker was about to start a fast break and the refs stop play because they 24 second clock ran out on miami... but parket already had the ball, so why stop play?... to stop the san antonio fast break... less than a minute later ginobli is hit in the face, no foul... then lebron falls down and a foul is called... cheaters prosper in the nba... the announcers ignore it in the last minute, the refs decide the game in the last minute, that is the nba script... pathetic and the miami greatness is tainted beyond repair... three years in a row the refs decide the key games... other players would be thrown out of games for yelling ar refs, for cursing like lebron does... he gets rewarded at the end of the game... there is no doubt lebron has amazing talent, but his talent is worthless as long as the refs are not holding him to the same rules as every other player...

and the class of the spurs... the coach puts the responsibility squarely on the the spurs lack of passing and that is definitely why they lost the game... whenever ginobli tries to go one on one and shoot stupid shots from outside in the last few minutes, the spurs lose... sure, the refs took leonard out of the game with cheap and bogus fouls... and definitely the refs gave miami extra points, without which miami would have lost... but the refs would have had to make even more flagrant bias calls for miami to win if san antonio did not have ginobli on the floor in the last few minutes... just like last year... he has his place and he is a great player, but he is not the one you want handling the ball in the last few minutes, not if you want to win... the announcers are such kiss ass ridiculous wastes - leonard is oh for two?... the same announcing team said before the game leonard was the difference in game one and that miami was in trouble,,, not miami can do no wrong... what a waste of time...

before game two i wondered if the nba would let san antonio have a fair shot at winning... they didn't... every year, the nba leaves a bad taste in the mouths of anyone who really knows basketball... their popularity is losing the mainstream, whether they see it or not...

kaspersky, dammit

i don't know if i am going to renew the kaspersky pure 3.0 license when it expires cuz the scan automatically happens even when i am using the computer even though i have it set not to and the scan stops me from being able to use my computer slowing it so much that it takes five to ten minutes to open the kaspersky console and stop the scan and the moment i finally can stop it, the computer runs just fine and i can use my computer again... the frustration reached i want another virus protection program level tonight so if anybody out there knows of a protection suite that actually works without taking over the computer when i am using the computer, let me know...

kaspersky, you are losing me and the three licenses i pay for...

don't trust target

For many years I spent many thousands of dollars a year at Target, Almost ten years ago I disputed an amount under $100 for an online purchase at a third party website and told Target I withdraw all authorization for that merchant to charge anything to my Target Card.. Target not only did not assist with that dispute, they allowed two more charges from that merchant after I told Target I no longer authorize use of the card for that merchant. I cancelled the card and yet another charge was authorized by Target from that same merchant the day after I cancelled the card.

The total charge I disputed for the multiple unauthorized charges that Target allowed was under $100. That was almost 10 years ago. Yes, ten years ago I wrote to Target Corporate and spent many hours talking to Target on the phone in an attempt to resolve their authorization errors and they did nothing. After a year or so of ignoring my letters and telephone requests for dispute resolution, I heard nothing so I assumed Target wrote off the charge and on principle, I accepted that.

The reason I am writing this review is I am now seeing a $500 amount listed as going into default in 2013 from another company for that same Target disputed charge, Target sold that debt almost ten years after they refused to settle the dispute. So I now have one default charge on my record that is more than 5 times the original unauthorized charge and worst of all, dated 2013 as if the original default was not ten years before.

So Target allowed unauthorized charges, refused to address their errors, and now due to their mismanagement dropped my credit score under 700.

My advise to you is never trust Target credit card management.

If you really feel they will not mismanage your account, then at least never use your Target card anywhere but the Target store. I urge you to be wise and cancel your Target Card.

freeservers, not so free

ok, so the story of the human race is greed and so many companies have set up their business to trick people into paying more than they have to that i wonder if there is an honest human being... $105 later, i now own my domain for another year... during this year i will shop for cheaper domain registrars and a cheaper web host for my site because there are many out there and i believe i found one that will charge less and give me my domain for free... since the best deal i can get from my current registrar is $22 a year if i pay for ten years up front vs. $16 a month for 300GB of storage and unlimited bandwidth with the domain name free... i currently pay about $8 a month for 1 GB of storage and $3 a month for the domain so it would just be about $5 a month more for 300GB and unlimited bandwidth and the domain so i will call that company to verify that is the actual cost, but that is what the fine print below the $2.99 come on offer says...

but my complaint is that the host i currently pay had the wrong link on the domain and the wrong year on the expiration date which cost me $70 in redemption fees and that just sucks...

enough reason to change hosts right there...

grumble...

brighthouse... again

will someone please offer an internet service at 30Mbps so i can dump the madness that is the brighthouse company?... they are so far behind the times in technology that it takes ignorance or ignoring to stay with them and sometimes the ignoring just does not work... so four hours after i went online to update my credit card for automatic payments i am left with four hours gone from my life and no resolution as the website will not work for me... statements will not appear online and they charge to send paper statements out... they are the most unethical and incompetent company i deal with in this life and i only stay because nobody comes neat the internet speed they can provide... i will settle for 30Mbps anywhere if it was available...

wasting my time is what brighthouse does best... I call and sit for a half an hour in a queue only to be bounced around... I will not contact them via email because brighthouse wants me to enter part of my social security number before it will accept an email... just below the warning: "For security purposes do not include credit card information or bank about information in chat or email" brighthouse asks me to enter social security number information... and it's not even on an https web page, but an apps page... chat wants me to change my pop up settings... every time I have to deal with brighthouse I waste my time jumping through hoops... no other company is so backwards and unfriendly online... yet they charge for paper bills... they still want my money, but they will not allow me to simply pay... they should be paying me for all the time they waste...

and they paid me below minimum wage, giving me a $24 discount for 4 hours working for them trying to fix their site and get my statement so i could see what they were charging me for... i still don't have access to statements, but they escalated the issue to a higher tech level... the gorillas passed the coconut to the chimpanzees... wait, i may be insulting chimps... how that company got the monopoly on fast internet service just is one more example of the corruption in the usa... if i wasn't supporting three others and paying off a new car, i'd just try all the other services and switch to the second fastest one out there...

the internet lies

i wish it wouldn't but it lies... people post lies about other people on the internet... i do my best to ignore anything that is a flat out lie about me, but i hate limiting my web experience by avoiding websites where lies are posted... especially when those lies include my full legal name... people really are so unaware, insensitive, and disrespectful it is amazing they don't kill each other... wait, they do... a lot...

today i noticed that a recap of games are posted on my sunday team's facebook page... reading the recaps objectively, it would seem we have a really good team and the biggest weakness is the pitcher... that would be me... all ego aside, i am one of the best pitchers in the league and they know it... but the stats they post do not include errors, so reading that i gave up 20 hits when i gave up three hits and the team behind me made 17 errors sets me quite apart from that team and puts their errors on me... that sucks mostly because i love statistics and these statistics lie... it sucks because i will not refer anyone to that team page because an objective read of what is posted there would say wow, pretty good team, if only you had a decent pitcher...

that's not team... that's not fair... that is one more internet lie...

greystar does cut it

i've given a month to get it right... they failed... i refer to the apartment community in which i live... they have messed up enough so that i will be writing bad reviews about them for a long time... the biggest mess up is not apologizing until weeks of intrusive and dangerous construction lead me to move out of the bedroom... they hired a contractor to replace the siding to beautiful the community and ultimately, charge more for rent... the contractors busted holes through bedroom walls partly because they are quite dangerously incompetent and partly because the buildings are old and the walls easily crumble... and are sealed poorly and filled with mold... heavy pest control keeps the outdoor life from moving indoors, but that's pretty typical of florida... we accepted the older construction and flaws because we are paying lower rent than the market rate... though we are paying the same as a mortgage if we bought a house, but that's another story...

anyway, greystar is the company that manages the property and the community manager is a reasonably polite and decent person... she is probably quite polite and kind, even, but my perspective is quite tainted at the moment... for one thing, a half dozen occasions i got home and found construction was done in the bedroom and it was left a mess with sharp rusty nails in the carpet... three times, at least, the lights were unplugged and once the power was turned off... that night there was a three inch rusty nail sticking up from a baseboard they removed... the baseboard was left laying across the bedroom floor with the nail sticking up right next to the lamp... i (and they) are very lucky i did not find the nail with my foot as i stumbled in the dark trying to find the circuit breaker and plug to plug the lamp back in... that's just the tip of the mess...

the wholes in the walls were through to the outside so the insulation and carpet (and drywall) were damaged and after a month of that damage, there is mold growing in the walls and who knows what else... they did not seal the outside wall properly and did not notice for weeks even as i complained and told them i moved out of the bedroom because it is unsafe and unhealthy... they ignored the dangers and i could sue, but i have no interest in spending my time in courts... it is still the best suited apartment for us based on the layout, size, price, location, and the various other intangibles that go into such a decision... still, it sucks very much... greystar sucks very much...

i've lived in communities run by three of the top ten management companies... i have experienced much more incompetent and ruder managers and staff and much poorer service... but never have i felt unsafe and unhealthy like i do now... for a month i have slept on the couch, aching and missing rem sleep and feeling like crap most every morning... i forget while i am out each day and then wish i did not go back home at night... it does not feel like home anymore... that is the kind of community life greystar provided... and no respect or tangible compensation... that is the insult to the injury...

greystar sucks... they may be the biggest... they also suck...

extra crap

hey, this could be a complaint too, ya know?... i mean, complaints are not always serious and depressing, they can be laughed at too, even when they are serious and depressing, i mean, cake our superficial pretentious culture, please (thank you rodney playing in the danger fields in the sky with don, who rhymes with tickles, no relation except by association, yeah, yeah, yeah)... and yes, of course i mean take, not cake, but read on and see if any of this extra crap just tossed in way after the fact (or fiction) for no apparent reason other than to pretend it was here all along like the complainer was busy complaining and not asleep at the wheel of the bus wrapped around the tree that can't be seen for the forest blinds us to the life within makes any sense...

yes, there are many shows that are representative of the shameless extravagance of the current american culture (human nature?), but extra may take the cake (and eat it too)... wait, another cake analogy may be just around the corner... yes, marie antoinette, the epitome of "let them eat cake" is the obscene pleasure extra portrays with shiney white teeth, perfect make up, and buffed bodies in pretentious drama and gleeful bliss (ignorance) as that ridiculous enigma of fame and fortune summed up in the ultimate single word oxymoron (yes, it takes the mind of god to understand it all), celebrity, all dressed up and nowhere to go...

the height of eye candy and over-stating the obvious, the only thing missing is the hype that extra is must see tv, but wait, trademarks, copyrights, and all that jazz keeps us all tied up in court paying lawyers to continue giving us reasons to believe our lives are ever so important, i mean, we must be important, just look at all the money they are spending...

cynical much?... ah, it's beyond all that and commercials too, it's unreal passing as the reality that everybody is told they want so often that they believe it and must have it and long for it and sell their soul, if they could (or had something like it), just for a taste of the cake (what, you thought the cake was all gone?)...

hey, eye candy (and eye cake) is fun, but waiting a half hour for craig ferguson to come on and get real (wink wink) can get annoying, ya know?... lol lam lal laa...

paranoid advertising

i am not even sure how this paranoid android advertising (no offense to REM) opened in my browser, but there it was in it's own tab after i went to a few websites like hollywood reporter and media life magazine and common sense media (the latter reeks of small minded paranoid in it's own way, so maybe, but i am not interested in connecting the dots at the moment... kaspersky denied their security certificate)... these are likely the same people who condemned FEMA for slow reactions to hurricane katrina... think about it, the mission of FEMA is to get as much emergency supplies to a disaster area as possible in the shortest amount of time possible... that is what we expect them to do... we scream government mismanagement and corruption if they don't... so when GEMA asks emergency food kit manufacturers how much they stock and how fast they can deliver, that makes sense to anyone who can add two plus two without paranoid delusions getting in the way... of course if the emergency food kit manufacturer wants to create panic so people will rush to buy their product, that paranoid delusional thinking would make sense...

it sucks, really, that we live in this fear-driven, greed-driven world... i hope the next dominant species is more enlightened and less destructive...

so meaningless...
